Bringing Thursday Recs in a little bit early today 👀

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

This week's questions were suggested by [livejournal.com profile] lord_azurewave.

1. Who is your best friend?

2. Why did you become friends?

3. How did you meet?

4. Why have you stayed friends?

5. How long (realistically) do you think you'll be friends?

Copy and paste to your own journal, then reply to this post with a link to your answers. If your journal is private or friends-only, you can post your full answers in the comments below.

If you'd like to suggest questions for a future Friday Five, then do so on DreamWidth or LiveJournal. Old sets that were used have been deleted, so we encourage you to suggest some more!

**Remember that we rely on you, our members, to help keep the community going. Also, please remember to play nice. We are all here to answer the questions and have fun each week. We repost the questions exactly as the original posters submitted them and request that all questions be checked for spelling and grammatical errors before they're submitted. Comments re: the spelling and grammatical nature of the questions are not necessary. Honestly, any hostile, rude, petty, or unnecessary comments need not be posted, either.**

Hello, everyone!

Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month in the United States? This month, write about a disabled character. These stories will count for life drawing. Earn 1 novelty bead per 500 words or fraction thereof.

Go forth and write! I look forward to seeing your works.
HowlCon

HowlCon attendee registration is now open!
Time sure flies - the con is only two and a half months away! So attendee registration is now open for HowlCon!

What is HowlCon?
HowlCon is a virtual camping-themed convention for alterhumans and nonhumans being hosted September 19-21, 2025! We are often so scattered across the web, we hope to serve as a gathering place for folks to meet others like themselves, make friends and generally have a good time. Our goal is to bring our community together for a weekend of fun and learning.

Register here!

The form will close a week before the con - September 12, 2025.

Also!

Panelist and artist applications have been extended to August 20

Looking for a way to engage more with the alterhuman and nonhuman community?

There's still time to register as a panelist or artist!

It's a great way to get a bunch of other critters together to do something fun - or learn something new! Make friends, share your ideas and put yourself out there.

We're having to rebuild the search server again (previously, previously). It will take a few days to reindex all the content.

Meanwhile search services should be running, but probably returning no results or incomplete results for most queries.

Our next stop on the trip that day was Oneonia Gorge. It has a tunnel through the rock in between the trees, though we didn't go through it. Instead, we stopped just before it to take pictures of the creek and gorge.Read more... )

This week's questions were suggested by [livejournal.com profile] bindyree.

1. Who was your favorite teacher?

2. Why was that teacher so special?

3. Do you think teachers get paid enough?

4. Do you have a favorite year of school?

5. If you could travel back in time and tell yourself something now that would have helped you get through school, what would you say?

silvercat17: a box with a question mark on each side (mystery box)

(I keep forgetting to do these, so feel free to poke me via DM or on the discord. You can also keep posting to the most recent one.

This is the place for any questions or suggestions you have for [community profile] rainbowfic , [community profile] rainbowlists , and [community profile] rainbowlounge . This includes 'how does this work?', 'does this supply or style count for this?' and 'what are the limits on this?'

There are a good amount of things that have fuzzy limits or definitions and that's okay. You're allowed to use your judgement of how to use a list, supply, style, etc. But I also want to acknowledge that not everyone is comfortable with ambiguity and that some people need more concrete answers. So this is where to get those (and then it'll be added to the appropriate page). But there are no tag/prompt/writing police here

Anyone can answer (please, if you've been here longer, jump in and help). Please take time to check what the different [community profile] rainbowlists pages say because they might have the answer, but don't be afraid to ask something that seems obvious: it may be that I need to clarify a description or q&a. Checking the tags on [community profile] rainbowfic to see how something has been used is also a good way to get answers, or at least precedent.

I'll be using these as a resource to find things that need to be added or improved in the q&as on Rainbowlist

I talked about it on the discord, but here's the "official" idea:

Description:
Use tarot, oracle cards, runes, I Ching, dice, or another divination method for inspiration. See Q&A below.

Q&A
- Can I use a horoscope? We have Glue already for looking up horoscopes, but if you create your own it would count for this.
- Minimum cards/runes/etc? At least one.
- Here are some online sources for randomly drawn things.

Proposed name:
- Tempera because it's one of the oldest types of paint
- Easel because you sort of prop your interpretations on the cards/etc
- Tape to pair with Glue (the horoscope of the day)

Comments? Objections? Suggestions?
